This blog is dedicated to one of the most beautiful trees in Somerville. This tree, known by admirers as "Bertha," was located near the Cambridge/Somerville bike path on Thorndike St. I always found it inspiring, as did others, and am happy to have captured the final year of this beautiful tree as it reflects the seasons.

I have been out of the country, and I returned to shorter and colder days. It has been hard to get pictures recently because by the time I go out it has been too dark. I did get home early from work today, so I was able to snap a few pictures. You can see that leaves are starting to drop and the branches are beginning to show through. The cycle continues...
I snapped a good shot at this angle today. It is better because there are no wires in the shot, but you see a few gaps that don't show in other pictures. Almost every time I walk by this tree on the bike path behind Davis Sq, someone is looking at it and remarking on it. For some reason, it just stops people in their tracks.
I am going to try to take pictures of this tree a few times a week or so if I can. That way you can see it change throughout the winter months. It might be difficult since it gets dark early, but I'll do my best. Please comment if you have seen this tree or have other trees that stop you in your tracks in Somerville.
This tree has inspired me to start up this blog. If you take the bike path out of Davis Square towards Mass Ave, you will see this tree on your right side as you walk along. It is a beautiful and proud tree, and I plan on taking pictures of it throughout the year and posting them here. I also welcome leads on other magnificent trees in the Somerville area, especially if you can get a good view of them.
